The Australian Solar Industry unites to help wildlife after the Bushfires

As you may be aware, through late 2019 to early 2020, the bushfires ravaged through many parts of Australia affecting peoples livelihoods, homes and especially wildlife. Parts of Gippsland in Victoria, particularly saw the fires scorch most of the land & flora. The Goongerah Wombat Orphanage had all its surroundings charred, however, luckily most of the animals survived on the property.

To future-proof the orphanage they realised their current #SolarPV system wasn’t able to match their daily power requirements, and hence they reached out to RACV Solar. They with other local businesses, including Clenergy supplied the orphanage, with a 6.3kW ground-mounted (PostMount) off-grid solar system worth $50,000, free of charge.

“With a reliable power source, we’re looking at all the possible options of expanding our work to be able to provide an exceptional standard of care for wombats. We hope to be able to increase our orphanage’s capacity including treatment facilities, orphan care and education opportunities.” Goongerah Wombat Orphanage.

RACV Solar chief executive officer Andy McCarthy says, “Projects like this warm his soul. Gippsland is my home, my family and friends are here; friends lost their homes in the fires,” he says. “It’s not just about business, this is our home and the least we can do is help”

“When Andy’s team reached out to us at Clenergy, we did not even think twice. We knew that they meant well, that they would follow through and they would deliver exactly on what they had promised. The project supports some of the most vulnerable wildlife, and we just had to get involved. Thanks to partners like RACV, the impact of our products, will effectively benefit the local wildlife which aligns with our social mission for a sustainable future.” Vince Mobilio, Country Manager – Australia, Clenergy

Other Industry brands that came together for this project were Sunpower (Panels),  Selectronic SP Pro (hybrid inverter); Fronius (inverter), PowerPlus Energy (battery)
